Guide to Spectrum Internet Self-Installation
People who have already subscribed to residential internet services are making the most of them as a distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people are working from home, using the internet for video and audio calls, tracking tasks, and sharing files. Younger users are relying on the internet for their online schooling as universities and schools have temporarily shifted online.
At times like this, if you haven’t already subscribed to high-speed internet services, getting one now might seem impossible. After all, the threat of contagion is ever-present. Luckily, a few providers like Charter Spectrum allow you to self-install your internet service.
Why Should I Opt For Spectrum Internet Self-Installation?
The coronavirus pandemic has infected millions across the globe and killed tens of thousands of people in many countries. Governments all over the world have enforced some measure of lockdowns or shelter in place orders. Only essential services like food and medicine are running. And even people working at those services are at risk. Anyone could be carrying the virus. And since it has a long incubation period, you wouldn’t even know you were infected until much later when you’ve infected other people.
Social distancing measures are a logical step. To stay below the capacity of the healthcare system, it is important to limit exposure and take all precautions necessary. Therefore you should only leave your home for things like buying essential food items. In any case, letting someone into your home is a very bad idea. That includes your installation technician. Ordinarily, this would be a huge problem for anyone who does not already have an internet subscription. But the Spectrum internet self-installation option offers a solution.
Ordering the Self-Installation Kit
The process of hooking up your high-speed internet service yourself is made very easy by the provider. The first thing you need to do is order the self-install kit. This is a free-of-cost kit and does not cost you extra when you place an order for Spectrum home WiFi on the phone or online. You can still opt for a self-install after you placed an order. All you have to do is call Spectrum and request it. The kit contains everything you need to hook up your service, including:
- An instructions guide
- An internet modem
- A Wi-Fi router
- A coaxial cable
- An Ethernet cable
- 2 power cables
Make sure everything is in the kit before you move on to the installation.
Steps To Self-Install Your Service
Once you have all the items listed in the self-install kit, it is time to move on to the next step. Follow these steps to install your Spectrum home internet:
Step #1: Connecting the Modem
Connect one end of the coaxial cable to your modem and the other to your cable outlet. Connect the power cable to the modem and plug it into a nearby power outlet. Wait for two to five minutes for the modem to connect to the provider’s network. Once this is done, the “Online Status” light will stop blinking and remain solid.
Step #2: Connecting the Router to the Modem
Use the Ethernet cable to connect your home Wi-Fi router to the modem. Plug your Wi-Fi router into a nearby wall socket using the other power cable. Switch on the router and wait for the Wi-Fi Status light to turn blue. Depending on the router and modem, this can take up to 10 minutes.
Step # 3 Connect a Wireless Device to the Network
Using your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, head into Wi-Fi settings. Locate the right SSID or network name and connect to it. You can find this at the back of the router. This may also be a good time to place a password on your network to protect it from unauthorized access.
Step #4: Service Activation
The final step is to activate your internet equipment. Check your installation guide for the right website address, and follow the on-screen prompts. In case you are unable to do this, or have any problems with Spectrum internet self-installation, don’t worry. Just reach out customer service representative to help you with service activation.
